Principal's Message
Welcome back!
I am so excited to have begun another school year here at Garfield! As we embark on another adventure into academics, social emotional learning and all-around fun, we pride ourselves on being in a building with a dynamic staff, dedicated to developing well-rounded students.
I would like to welcome all of our new students and families to Garfield Middle School and welcome back our 7th and 8th graders and their families. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of our Garfield community who helped kick the school year off smoothly. Thank you to our wonderful PTSA and office staff who prepared all of the packets of information for families and the students who helped with orientation to get our new students acclimated to their new school. This kind of collaboration and team effort is so vital to student success as we strive for high academic achievement.
The Garfield experience allows for students to explore musical and artistic interests, literacy, mathematics, science, history, clubs of various content and empathetic human interactions. This year we will amplify our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports model while focusing on academic improvement of each child. Our Academic Support system is still in place and students will continue to receive services to increase academic success.
Each day will be a new opportunity to make progress on our goals and to embrace the learning processes we will explore daily. We welcome the continued involvement of Garfield families and encourage parents, students and staff to join our PTSA. Your support and kindness is greatly appreciated. A wonderful year is ahead and I look forward to continuing this journey with the Lakewood community.
Sincerely,
Robin Pettiegrew, PhD
Garfield Principal
